Step by Step to Summer Happiness

Along around 250 km of marked hiking trails, you can discover the beautiful alpine landscapes of the Grossarltal at your own pace. Particularly family-friendly are stroller-accessible paths, varied alpine hikes and the popular hiking badges for children. With Rucki Zucki, the mascot of the Gaudi-Alm, young hikers can become little climbers, summit explorers or true mountain enthusiasts.

Cable Car Hiking

The Panoramabahn of the Großarl mountain railways takes you comfortably up to 1,850 metres even in summer. At the top, scenic and easy hiking routes await – perfect for families.

Guided Family Hike

A real highlight is the guided family hike with your host Sepp and the children’s activity leader. Together with the ponies, you walk up to an alpine hut, where a traditional snack, coffee and cake await – every Monday in good weather.

Discover the Alps Playfully

With the Grossarltal sticker booklet, every hike becomes a small adventure. At selected alpine huts, children collect stickers, explore alpine life and discover the Valley of Alpine Meadows in a playful and child-friendly way.

Hiking Adventures for Adults

Through the BERG-GESUND association, guests can take part in free guided hikes and mountain tours during the summer months (mid-May to October). Tours range from relaxed walks to more challenging alpine routes and are led by certified mountain guides.

40 Alpine Huts to Discover

Around 40 traditional alpine huts shape the character of the Grossarltal and give it the name Valley of Alpine Meadows. Here you will find 250 km of hiking trails and 120 km of mountain bike routes, all set against the impressive mountain scenery of the Hohe Tauern.
The alpine huts invite you to take a well-deserved break – with freshly baked bread, cheese, butter, bacon and a homemade schnapps.

Our Insider Tip: The Salzburger Almenweg

The Grossarltal lies directly along the Salzburger Almenweg, a 350 km long hiking route that passes more than 120 alpine huts. The Family Hotel Oberkarteis in Hüttschlag is the perfect starting point for many stages in the heart of the Alps.

Mountain Biking & E-Biking

Two Wheels, Endless Possibilities

Discover the Grossarltal by bike. With more than 140 km of mountain bike trails and around 13,000 metres of elevation gain, the region is a true paradise for cyclists.
In total, 16 marked routes lead through the valley and up to the alpine huts, with between 300 and 1,000 metres of elevation gain per tour.

Our Tip for Relaxed Cyclists – The Valley Cycle Path

For a leisurely ride, follow the valley cycle path from Großarl to the car-free end of the valley. The full route is 44 km there and back – a pleasant challenge that you will definitely feel in your legs by the evening.
